Kappa Deltas Reimagine Shamrock Fundraiser for CCFH
Each year, the Kappa Delta sorority at UNC Chapel Hill holds its Shamrock ‘N’ Run 5K benefiting CCFH and Prevent Child Abuse America.
In February 2020, their efforts raised a stunning $50,327 to support the evidence-based, trauma-informed mental health care that children and families receive in CCFH’s Urbaniak Clinic – more than they had ever raised before!
In the midst of a global pandemic that upended undergraduate life came the question: could the Kappa Delta students safely continue their philanthropic commitment to the prevention of child abuse? With remarkable creativity and perseverance, they did just that, raising $50,566 in 2021.
The Kappa Deltas re-envisioned their annual 5K race as a Virtual Miles Challenge where participants could run or walk anytime, anywhere, any distance during the week of March 10-17 and log their miles in an online leaderboard. More than 700 people of all ages took part from Durham to Dallas to San Francisco to Chicago. This included 50+ CCFH donors, staff, and their family and friends!
With prizes, a photo contest, an online silent auction, and an Irish-themed to-go dinner, the Kappa Deltas transformed Shamrock into a socially-distanced fundraiser that kept the community safe. And, as always, they took the time to learn about CCFH’s mission, this year via video calls and messages from our staff.
We applaud the young women of Kappa Delta for their dedication and generosity in supporting healthy futures for the children in our care!
