Community Representative

Kate McCrary Johnson

A native of Burlington and 40-year resident of Durham, Kate McCrary Johnson has spent decades in service to her family and her community through extensive volunteering and philanthropy.

Her service includes various Parent Councils and Advisory Boards, which involved chairing auctions, annual funds, and event coordination – as well as serving on development committees and Boards of Directors for various clubs and organizations.

Serving as chair of the Debutante Ball Society of Durham and Orange Counties was deeply meaningful to her as she led the efforts to transform the Society from “an anachronistic and elitist organization to one that celebrates and guides young women who show great leadership potential.” Her efforts as chair ultimately contributed to a robust mentorship program and philanthropy efforts.

Her connection to CCFH’s work is deeply personal. As she wrote: “As an individual with complex PTSD, I discovered several years ago that trauma therapists exist for ‘people like me’–not just for veterans and victims of domestic abuse. I know firsthand the effective and, frankly, lifesaving and life-altering benefits of the services that CCFH has to offer.”

Kate has been a generous donor to CCFH for many years and recently underwrote our 2025 strategic planning efforts.

“It is my sincere belief that with active financial investment and planning for sustainability, the Center will be a long-term resource for those in need. It would be my honor to serve along with the highly knowledgeable and talented current Board members.”
