The Kappa Delta Sorority’s Beta Chi Chapter at UNC Chapel Hill will host their 16th annual Shamrock’N Run 5k race. The event benefits Prevent Child Abuse America and the Center for Child & Family Health. Last year the race raised over $42,000 for the prevention of child abuse and won the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s Chapter Excellence Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Activity. This year they hope to exceed last year’s donation. The event includes a pump-up pasta dinner the night before the run. This year the run will be held at 10:00 on February 7, 2009. Violence Affects Our Children in Many Ways |

In April of 2007, CCFH partnered with the Durham Chapter of the Links, Inc. to sponsor a community symposium. Our speakers included MaryAnn Black, Associate VP for Community Relations at Duke University Health System, as the moderator, and panelists Elaine O’Neil Bushfan, Chief District Court Judge of the Durham County14th Judicial District, Juvenile Court; Robert A. Murphy, PhD, Executive Director of the Center for Child and Family Health; Eunice Sanders, EdD, Director of Student Services of the Durham Public Schools. We helped members of our community learn ways to
- prevent and treat the damage caused by violence
- reduce children’s exposure to violence and abuse
- recognize the symptoms of post-traumatic stress in children
- access community resources.
This highly successful event was attended by more than 200 registrants from a wide variety of community groups. Registration was free, and a complimentary continental breakfast - donated by Links, Incorporated Durham Chapter members - was offered. |

On November 4, 2007, we celebrated our first decade of restoring hope to children’s lives with a gala performance at Durham’s Historic Carolina Theater. A concert was held from 4:30 to 6:30pm, followed by a reception. Over 200 individuals and corporations lent resources to sponsor this event. Special recognition goes to the Champion Level sponsors — Credit Suisse Corporation and Duke University Medical Center — and to the Director Level sponsors: GlaxoSmithKline, Marlan and Jay Gladieux, PepsiCo Corporate Charitable Contributions, Ann and
Charlie Sanders, MD, Smith Breeden Associates, Inc., Williams Capital, and WUNC Radio. During the reception, our honorary Leadership Council members received special recognition: Mary DBT Semans, Muff Urbaniak, and Jeannie Ingram. All guests enjoyed mingling with the performing artists, Durham Symphony Orchestra leadership, CCFH board members and Leadership Council members.
